Stormers lose Springbok De Allende for 12 weeks

Damian de Allende in action for Stormers

Stormers centre Damian de Allende will spend approximately 12 weeks out of action with an ankle injury.

The South Africa international sustained the issue in the second half of Saturday’s 37-24 Super Rugby victory over Bulls on Saturday.

The 25-year-old joins Scarra Ntubeni, Leolin Zas and Juan de Jongh on the sidelines.

De Allende could miss up to 11 games for Stormers, meaning he is unlikely to have any match practice before the Springboks take on France in a three-match Test series in June.

In some respects Guillard reminds me of Abdel Benazzi, very powerful base but with skills and some speed too.

At his best Woki can be a game-changer so I can see him making rapid progress up the ladder when he’s confident and fit.

True about Ireland post-Johnny and prob NZ with Roigard. However I feel the Boks are moving the opposite direction with SFM and Willemse in the two playmaking spots… It’s called ‘Tony-ball’ for a reason - it’s different to what went before!

Pour moi ils se valent, mais avec des qualités de leadership en plus avec Ramos. Pour moi , ces 2 joueurs sont actuellement parmi les meilleurs rugbyman au monde. Et pourtant ils ne figurent dans aucun classement ou nomination. Ça me rappelle Martin Juan Hernandez, probablement le meilleur joueur de rugby au monde entre 2006 et 2009, et pourtant jamais cité nulle part, car argentin.

Rien de nouveau chez les Boks à ce niveau là. Les Boks ont toujours exploité l’axe 10-15. Notamment avec Pollard Leroux et leroux jouant davantage sur l’animation. En fait, je pense même que c’est moins vrai actuellement chez les Boks, ou le 9 a pris davantage d'importance dans son animation et leur jeu par fulgurance.

D'une manière générale, beaucoup d'équipe ont redonné de l'importance au 9 dans l’animation offensive, en particulier les Irlandais avec Gibson Parc depuis le départ de Sexton, et les All Blacks avec Roigard.

Who are the contenders to replace Abby 'Wow' on England's wing?

A couple of posters have mentioned CMM’s age but is it really that relevant, I mean is 29 really that old? While she is still performing I think she still deserves to be in the conversation and the shirt should be hers to lose, PWW proved that you can still score tries beyond 30. Mia Venner I think is ahead of the others, she is already in and among the RR camp and didn’t do a lot wrong on debut against Wales (she did have a kick charged down which led to a penalty try if memory serves) nor in her comeback game. Abi Dow didn’t really set the world alight on her debut, she was outshone by Jess Breach’s try fest debuting in the same match.

On from in this season’s PWR, all a doing well, particuarly Westcombe-Evans coming back from a long injury. Do we know if Bonner is settled in 15s or will she be going back on the 7s circuit?

Crikey GG, you have a much higher opinion of WR’s capability if you actually think they have anyone smart enough to think through that lot in the sequence you suggest.

From my NH perspective, they just seem to butcher one decision from the next and just make it up as they go along. 🤣🤣🤣

It looked pretty good once they settled the side and launched Tonyball in Wellington didn’t it. 🤣🤣🤣

It’s actually been a very impressive season for SA but I still think they will get better next season, which makes the challenge of beating them more ominous the longer time moves on.

Yes, ENG are playing with a unique style and identify (the 5x7s has changed the game somewhat this season) and they are getting better. Very strong defensive displays, an improving (young) squad and some notable wins (ARG x3, FRA, AUS & NZ) also add a bit more credibility to that journey but the reality is they are nowhere near SA at the moment.

The question people should be asking is “are they capable of closing the gap over the between now and RWC2027”? That’s the real question of interest and it’s far too early to answer that question yet.

I think ENG also did rather well to beat ARG 3x, NZ, AUS & FRA this season, so the results may be a little stronger than you are suggesting.

They are not on the same level as SA but FRA, ENG & NZ will likely be the biggest challengers to SA in 2 years time.
