France (and Ireland) with zero knock out winning caps were most vulnerable against the likes of SA or NZ (with 100 knock out winning caps each) in a quarter final. With an even draw then those matches are semi finals and the playing field is a little more level.

Everyone said it in the lead up, the time to beat France was a QF. They get through that then they won’t be stopped. Given that France were generally more dominant in that match I think the “walked into a wall” comment is hyperbole.

The 6N Wales were getting their ass handed to them when nuts were squeezed under a maul and a punch was thrown in retaliation above it. The unfortunate Frenchman who reacted got red, Wales came back to win by a point and the Frenchman never played for France again.

SA were lucky they played so badly in a semi against Wales. They would have been well short against France. And that’s the nature of Rugby World Cups. Massive amount of luck involved to win.

Tbf they have others, maybe not in the same class as Willis and Marchand…. Cros [when available], Meafou, Pita Ahki, even Dupont.

One of the reasons France have been so successful is that they get turnovers from centre [Danty] and wing [Villiere].

Nice thank you, wanted to catch Gibson, he and Tukino are both local products so it’s great to hear Feibyan is progressing into the jersey more often, I havn’t seen much from him (followed his progress) yet other than his physicality to know what sort of player he is (given most of the times I’d seen him were tough CC matches).

huh, I was wrong! England were just behind Argentina. England’s retention rate was 26%, while Argentina had 29%.

England were less good at this than I thought (maybe if England had managed more than 29% they would have made the final!), but I guess the point still stands that England have got less good at this, despite it being such a key area of the game.

Still don’t get all the hype of DuPont… I get that is an amazing player… but he has never toured south, never won a World Cup, lot of injuries. He still has many things to prove. He is amazing but not a GOAT

I would love to see if he does well if he toured South Africa or New Zealand.

Love needs to have at least one full season of starting at 10 at Super Rugby level and playing outstanding before he should be seriously considered for All Blacks as a 10.
