The times are changing, and some Six Nations teams may be left behind

I think that would be OK but hopefully we would see more ball in hand. I am not even sure of the idea myself but the current situation is a bit off. To be honest, I used to hate the blatant blocking so its no easy issue to solve.

Definitely HH. While we're obviously keen to support Jacques anyway, the proof of the pudding IMHO is the Boks’ tackling which - apart from poor old Lood's unfortunate red card - is out of this world and the cream on the top of their defensive superiority. It's a joy to watch and goes back to my playing days when this standing-up concussion-causing nonsense was just a blip on the horizon. Jacques obviously did his bit towards that, and Jerry Flannery has finished it off. The Irish - and other countries’ - teams still need to get their heads around how important it is and their commentators too. Oh, and the Blitzbokke ook.

Ireland may have performed better at the Stade de France had they adopted Nienaber’s aggressive defensive set-up rather than the system Andy Farrell deployed, which shipped a concerning 35 missed tackles.

Will be very interesting to see Tengblad get a run instead this season, although young and having been held back so far for his own development you have to see him now being the squads 3rd lock, and given that elevation, lots of gametime now that he’s going to be relied on to cover Holland.

They will still limit his involvement heavily but 2 or 3 starts and half a dozen bench roles is going to be a perfect introduction to Super for him, especially with someone like Lavinini to show him the way.

Really, is there a story about him losing 10kg? I wouldn’t doubt it, probably just as easy for him to add it back though.

I personally don’t see what the frustration is with him on the wing, particularly regarding pace. We’ve always had a big left wing.

What a lot of pundits have neglected to point out is that Italy had a big advantage in that they had 12 points on the board prior to the rain. They were front runners in those conditions which gave them a huge advantage. Scotland outscored them in the terrible conditions, but made many more errors as they were chasing points. The Italy result wasnt as bad as people say. They are a big chance ofn outscoring England in dry conditions at Murrayfield.

Not sure it’s the Italy performance in isolation being the issue though. They capitulated against Argentina, were mediocre in the summer and despite some positive moments in the last Six Nations the results were fairly average. Both teams had to deal with the conditions in Rome and Scotland couldn’t adapt. The talk pre-tournament was how well placed they were to make a challenge yet it’s more like Groundhog Day. Scotland have shown issues in concentration by letting leads slip and a lack of plan B. The reaction is not due to just the inept performance in Rome but a consistent inability to kick on and become a real title threat with the talented squad at their disposal

Anyone watched enough of Daniel Brennan to know if he is any good? Bouncing round 4 French clubs is a fine professional career and I’m sure he will get a job in the Top 14 or Pro D2. I was just curious if the IRFU would be interested in bringing him to Ireland if he’s good enough.

The loss to Italy was significantly overblown IMO. The conditions evened the contest enormously. Scotland will trouble England in this game as all the pressure is on England as they are hyped to win the tournament.

Oops. To rein in the number & make-up of subs. In fact, if I remember correctly, the introduction of the subs had a positive effect. (Removing tired players apparently reduced injuries…) Sadly, I cannot lay my hands on the docs or article…so I’m all talk & no beef.

That’s the best sum up of the situation that I have read. The talk on the EGM is that Ian Griffiths is waiting for the 6Nations to finish, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to call it earlier.

5 Englishmen make our Six Nations team of the week

So 5 players get picked for a glorified training run, but Jalibert and Depoortere, who ran an Irish defence ragged, don’t make it. Some incredible bias there. The French performance in the first half was head and shoulders above anything else we saw at the weekend.

My local club have a pile of tickets that they are trying to offload for half-price. It is a very dark time for Welsh rugby at the moment. Everything seems to be bargain basement, from the WRU boardroom, to the coaches, to the tickets. The spiral continues downwards.
