Ospreys' Ross Moriarty learns his fate after red card offence

Ospreys will have to make do without Ross Moriarty for their next two matches in Ireland and potentially one other fixture after the No.8 was handed a three-match ban for the red card he received against Benetton last weekend.

Moriarty was sent off for foul play at the ruck in the final quarter of the Ospreys’ 31-19 defeat in Treviso and will miss Saturday’s trip to Connacht in the URC and the EPCR Challenge Cup tie away to Ulster.

The Wales international will then sit out the Ospreys’ Challenge Cup quater-final if they make it that far. Otherwise, their home URC fixture against the Sharks will count as the third match of the suspension.

Should Moriarty complete the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme then the sanction will be reduced by one week.

The return to fitness of Wales captain Jac Morgan couldn’t have been more timely, the British and Irish Lions international coming off the bench in the Benetton defeat which was so damaging to the region’s play-off aspirations. Ospreys are 10th in the table, six points adrift of where they need to be.

Having suffered no ill effects to the shoulder injury that ruled him out for the best part of five months, Morgan will lead the side from No.8 in Galway. Dan Edwards is also back in the Ospreys line-up after an encouraging Six Nations campaign.

Ospreys: Jack Walsh, Dan Kasende, Evardi Boshoff, Keiran Williams, Luke Morgan, Dan Edwards, Luke Davies; Steffan Thomas, Lewis Lloyd, Rhys Henry, Rhys Davies, Huw Sutton, James Ratti, Jac Morgan (CAPT), Morgan Morse.
