Referee change confirmed for England and South Africa semi-final

Referee Mathieu Raynal is set to replace Andrew Brace as an assistant referee in tomorrow’s World Cup semi-final clash between South Africa and England at the Stade de France.

The Frenchman officiated England’s win over Fiji last Saturday at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille and comes in after Brace pulled a calf muscle this week.

FL was my favourite player, so clever in the way he would attack the breakdown and absorb the impacts but his ability to stay in the jackal in the big moments was incredible. I was desperate to see how FL, Underhill & Felatau would go together but I think I had to wait about 18 months to get all of them on the pitch together with injuries.

They initially had the sand problem when they moved to Green Point but they fixed it with a hybrid if artificial and real grass. The texture of proper grass on top but the plastic binds the roots.

Ireland’s (ranked 1) draw was exactly the same as SA except we were scheduled to play Scotland 6 days before the QF. Ergo harder.

A proper reading of diplomatic wording of the decision seems to suggest acceptance that the reaction was deliberate but the attack on the eye per se not necessarily so? This entire matter has been sensationalised out of all proportion. Eddie Jones seems to have summed it up accurately as a relatively minor event in the context of the immolation of Wales in a remarkable match.

He’s fallen off the scene without doing anything wrong really.

He was on great form after the move to Bristol and then injury struck and the rest is history. I think he will build some form at Sarries and get back to his best, so he may get another crack at things over the next couple of years.

Jake didn’t make much of a dent for the brief stint he had down there. I might be wrong. He was remembered more for his exit.

But I agree with you. The sharks need a good SA coach. Preferably a vrystaater to whip them into shape.
