Racing 92 centre Josua Tuisova has been banned for two weeks after his red card against Perpignan at the end of January in the Top 14.
The Fijian powerhouse was dismissed in the first half of Racing’s 37-31 victory for a late, high tackle on Perpignan’s James Hall.
Following a hearing this week, the 32-year-old has been banned for the next two Top 14 matches, against Bayonne and Montpellier, and will be available again against Castres on March 21.
Tuisova was originally handed a four week ban, which was halved due to remorse, admission of guilt, and conduct before and during the hearing.
A Ligue Nationale de Rugby statement reads: “Mr. Josua Tuisova was found guilty of ‘Dangerous Play,’ specifically of ‘Holding, pushing, charging, or obstructing an opponent who is not in possession of the ball by a player who is not in possession of the ball (except in the case of a scrum, ruck, or maul).’ A medium-level suspension, as determined by the scale of severity, was imposed, resulting in a four-week suspension.
“After taking into account mitigating circumstances (expression of remorse, admission of guilt, and conduct before and during the hearing), the sanction was reduced by two weeks.
“Therefore, Mr. Josua Tuisova is suspended for two weeks.”
Tuisova’s coach Frederic Michalak has also been banned for one week due to “indiscipline, specifically ‘nervousness'” in the win over Perpignan.
The LNR statement also confirmed that SA XV Charente and former Samoa hooker Motu Matu’u has been banned for three weeks, Agen centre Kolinio Ramoka has been banned for three weeks and Montauban’s Fred Quercy has been banned for four weeks.
