Pumas pivot Tomás Albornoz linked with Toulon move
Los Pumas star Tomás Albornoz could be on the move, with reports suggesting the 27-year-old is set to swap the colours of Benetton for Toulon in 2026.
French outlet Midi Olympique is reporting that all parties involved are aligned on the primary contract points, while some of the finer details are yet to be ironed out.
What is understood is that the new contract would commence in 2026 and run through to at least 2028, bringing the star playmaker into the Top 14 as he enters the prime of his career.
Albornoz would contest Italian pivot Paolo Garbisi’s starting No. 10 jersey at the club and join a talented halfback trio of Baptiste Serin, Ben White, and Clovis le Bail in the halves.
The market for the playmaker’s services would have been fierce, despite his current hand injury, following his recent starring role in Argentina’s Rugby Championship win over the All Blacks. Prior to that, he had scored 18 points in his nation’s win over the British & Irish Lions in Dublin.
After departing Super Rugby Americas in 2021, Albornoz landed at Benetton, where his form quickly earned him his first Test cap with the Pumas. It wasn’t until the 2024 Rugby Championship that he solidified himself as the starting 10 for Felipe Contepomi’s side, with his selection one of the first big calls the coach made since succeeding Michael Cheika as head coach of the team following the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
