Plenty to play for at SVNS 2 finale in São Paulo

São Paulo is the scene for the final leg of the inaugural HSBC SVNS 2 season this weekend.

Players will step onto centre stage at the Estadio Nicolau Alayon to fight it out for the final HSBC SVNS World Championship places.

Argentina, South Africa, Spain, Germany and the USA have already secured top four spots with their efforts in Nairobi and Montevideo.

With stakes at an all-time high, China, Brazil and Kenya are hoping to claim the final spot in the women’s competition.

In the men’s competition things are wide open as Kenya lead the way for World Championship qualification, with Uruguay, Canada and Belgium also in hot pursuit.

Aline Furtado, Brazil’s captain, shared her hopes for the host nation heading into the decisive leg: “I hope that, as a team, we can play freely, enjoy our attacking moments, and bring out the magic we know we have within us.

“In defence, I hope we stay deeply connected, always defending together. And of course, really, really make the most of the energy from all the fans and family who will be there with us, especially the kids watching, taking in all that energy from everyone in the stands and bringing it into our hearts.”

Only the top four teams will qualify for World Championship events in Hong Kong, Valladolid and Bordeaux. At those tournaments places on the HSBC SVNS Series can be claimed.

With their Series wins, the Black Ferns and Blitzboks are exempt from relegation from the Series. At the season-ending World Championship events, 2025/26 core teams can be relegated as every game matters at showpiece tournaments in Asia and Europe.
