Neville to make history as first female ref in men's European fixture

Joy Neville will make history by becoming the first female to referee a European professional club fixture next month.

The EPCR confirmed Neville has been appointed to officiate the Pool One Challenge Cup fixture between Bordeaux-Begles and Enisei-STM on December 15.

Neville won 70 international caps for Ireland and won a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2013, before turning her hand to officiating upon retirement.

She has already been appointed as an assistant referee in the Champions Cup, Challenge Cup, Continental Shield and Pro14, while she was also in charge for the Women’s Rugby World Cup final between New Zealand and England in August.

I have no affiliation with any team in the European cup but I enjoy watching the games.

Having said that, the commentators on the Premier Sports feed I use to watch games here in Thailand were an embarrassment to themselves and the game. The unjustified bias in favour of the English team was palpable.

I get your argument, but I am not sure I agree. Plum played for the sharks for 10 years - probably beyond 80% of his fine playing career - and won the Currie Cup twice as a player.

He then won the Currie Cup 3 more times as a coach. More impressively, his first win as coach was in his first season in 2008, where he was appointed as a bit of a hail-mary, with the Sharks last winning the cup in Plum's own playing days way back in 1996. That's a long dry-spell. For the achievement, he won coach-of-the-year in SA. He does understand SA rugby's DNA, plus his international experience, which is only a benefit. He himself was a particularly abrasive player and great to watch.

Bath produce standout Champions Cup performance against Munster

That was very impressive from Bath, they were the best team by far and were simply fitter and stronger than Munster throughout.

It’s pretty clear that Munsters loss is Bath’s gain and this really showed what they missed by letting JvG go.

The yellow card for Leicester was absolute crap. Is he supposed to cut his legs of when he jumps. If you run under a player while they are taking the ball in the air you might find a foot coming down on top of you. The knee was close on 90 degrees not straight.

You did, actually. “Have England Suddenly Become a ‘Lucky’ Team” was a decent article, but the comments were a different story.

'It's crazy': All Black midfielder celebrates first Champions Cup performance

Super reception for him. An open mind is what Leinster need. He played well in this 20 min cameo and his threat and pace created a lot of room for others.

His first touch was a 5 metre scrum: Leinster just passed it out to him and let him have a go against some backs. He landed a metre short but Leinster got there after a few recycles.
