All Blacks duo ink new two-year deals with Chiefs
The Chiefs have announced two important re-signings for the 2027 and 2028 Super Rugby Pacific seasons, less than a week out from their round one fixture against the Blues.
All Black duo Simon Parker and Leroy Carter have both put pen to paper on an extension of their current deals, keeping the national representatives at the Hamilton-based franchise for another two seasons.
The duo, who will both be looking to help the Chiefs get over the final hurdle in 2026, made their debuts for the All Blacks in 2025 under former head coach Scott Robertson.
Carter played six of the thirteen Tests for the All Blacks in 2025, while Parker made eight appearances.
Northland and the Bay of Plenty also get the services of their respective players for another two years, with the players committing to two more seasons in the NPC competition as well.
The former All Blacks Sevens speedster, Carter, was nominated for the World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year in 2023, after playing a massive part in New Zealand’s World Series-winning squad.
The 26-year-old was then named Chiefs rookie of the year in 2025, which earnt him an All Blacks call-up where he made his debut against South Africa in the heavy loss in Wellington.
For Carter, he explained how it was an easy decision as he had no intention on playing for another Super Rugby Pacific franchise.
“I don’t want to play for another club, so it was a pretty easy decision,” Carter said in a Chiefs statement.
“It’s a club I grew up wanting to play for, and it’s a dream come true, so I’m excited to put pen to paper pretty early-doors, and I’m looking forward to it.”
Parker’s strong season under Clayton McMillan also pushed him into an All Blacks jersey in 2025, making his debut away in Buenos Aires against Argentina.
The loose-forward played age-grade rugby for the New Zealand U20’s, before making his NPC debut with Waikato, later moving up to Northland to continue his domestic career.
The 25-year-old workhorse made his Chiefs debut in 2020, and hasn’t looked back since, making 35 appearances for the franchise in the past six campaigns.
Parker admits he didn’t want to leave this decision too late, stating that it was a “no-brainer” for the All Black.
“I guess this is the sort of stage you start thinking about what’s next,” Parker said.
“You don’t want to leave it too late, obviously. So it was a bit of a no-brainer for me and my family, we’ve got our family roots planted where we are, so it’s quite nice to have some security that’s where you’re going to be for the next couple of seasons.”
