Jordan Larmour linked with a shock move to provincial rivals

Ireland winger Jordan Larmour has been linked with a shock move to link up with former senior Leinster coach Stuart Lancaster at Connacht next season.

The latest rumours suggest that ex-England coach Lancaster has put out feelers to several Leinster players whose contracts are nearing the end of their contracts to see whether they are interested in moving to Galway.

And one of them is Dublin-born Larmour, 28, who also plays full-back and has scored 49 tries in 117 games for his home province, but has been increasingly hindered by injuries in recent seasons.

It has prevented his career from reaching its full potential, especially on the international stage, where he has scored seven tries in 32 Test appearances, the last of which came against Scotland in March 2024.

Last season, he scored four tries in five appearances for Leinster before suffering an injury against Munster in December, which kept him out until the start of this season.

He is now out of Friday night’s Champions Cup clash with Leicester Tigers after sustaining another hamstring injury in a two-try player-of-the-match performance in the 45-28 victory over Harlequins at the Aviva Stadium last weekend.

It is another setback for Larmour, who is a popular figure with Leinster fans and has been in exceptional form this season for Leo Cullen’s side, but the significant blow means he will now miss the start of the Six Nations.

Leinster Assistant Coach Robin McBryde told the Irish Daily Mirror: “Yeah, it’s tough because you see how hard he works in his rehab in order to get back fit, so when you see that happen, it’s tough.

“It’s very hard in the moment to put any positive spin on it because it’s just one of those things, the nature of the game. At least he performed well in the game. He was outstanding.”

Larmour, who signed a new contract with Leinster in March, would get the chance of a fresh start in Connacht, who have won two of their five URC games under Lancaster this season.

Hardly surprising that there would be some speculation - Leinster have to move some people on and so this reads like 2 + 2 = 4. Larmour played well under Lancaster and has plenty of competition but I’d also say that Jimmy O’Brien would be on Connacht’s radar and why not bring Robbie Henshaw back while you are at it?
