Hurricanes continue signing spree with new deal for Maori All Black Devery
The Hurricanes have reached terms on a one-year contract extension with hooker Jacob Devery, keeping him with the club for a sixth year.
The three-cap Maori All Black played eight games in the Canes’ title run earlier this year, including off the bench in the final.
The Hastings product came through the Hurricanes’ development pathway and debuted for the club in 2022, cutting his teeth under the tutelage of All Blacks Dane Coles and Asafo Aumua.
“I’m grateful to re-sign with the Hurricanes for 2027,” Devery said. “I always feel very proud and privileged every time I get the opportunity to represent this club, and I can’t wait to get underway again next year.”
The Hurricanes have been busy announcing their latest deals ahead of next Wednesday’s Super Rugby Pacific squad namings, with signings of playmakers Harry Godfrey and Brett Cameron coming before Devery’s in the past week.
“Jacob is an integral part of both Hawke’s Bay and the Hurricanes. He’s now developed into a leader in Hawke’s Bay and a strong, consistent professional who we can really rely on here at the Hurricanes,” Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw said.
“To have him with his experience as part of that front row crew, alongside Asafo and Vernon and Raymond, is a real plus for us as a club and gives us huge depth and players with different skill sets and abilities.
“We expect him to continue to get better and play well in the future. To have him as part of our four hookers in next year’s squad is really encouraging.”
