England Women’s 2025 World Cup-winning head coach John Mitchell will be part of the Gloucester Rugby coaching group in November, the West Country club has confirmed.

The Kiwi has agreed to spend some time at the club during the current men’s Test window on an unpaid basis.

A statement from the club said: “Gloucester Rugby is pleased to confirm that John Mitchell has agreed to spend time with the club’s coaching group in November, focusing on improving tackle and collision effectiveness within the context of the team’s overall defensive development.

“The offer of support from John, who is passionate about helping coaches and players develop their understanding and application of effective defensive systems, is unpaid and not a consultancy role.

“Rather, his time with Gloucester represents an opportunity for the club’s younger coaching group to learn from one of the game’s most experienced minds as they continue to strengthen their defensive identity.

“Gloucester Rugby would like to thank John for his willingness to share his knowledge and experience during this period of learning and growth.”

Presumably the informal role will cover both the Gloucester-Hartpury PWR team and the Gallagher PREM team, although this is not specified by the club.
