'That would be a real dream': Richardson outlines plans after new deal

Fin Richardson aims to put himself in the frame for a place in Scotland’s 2027 World Cup squad by continuing to thrive with Glasgow.

It was announced on Wednesday that the 27-year-old tighthead, who joined Warriors from Exeter in 2024, has extended his contract at Scotstoun for next season.

Richardson has started 15 United Rugby Championship matches for Glasgow over the past two seasons and was rewarded with his first and only full Scotland cap to date against Tonga on last year’s summer tour of the Pacific Islands.

Speaking from Glasgow’s South African base, where they are preparing for Saturday’s top-of-the-table showdown with Stormers, the forward said: “I am very aware that the World Cup is coming up quite quickly here, so of course I want to be involved in the World Cup in any capacity I can be.

“That would be a real dream but I think the way that I will be able to do that is by keeping my focus more insular and knuckling down on the fundamentals of my game within the Glasgow Warriors structure, and with any luck the rest will take care of itself.

“I want to keep playing for Glasgow, I want to finish off the season well, contribute however I can and then if my performances have granted me the opportunity to play with Scotland, then that’s great.”

Scotland lock Grant Gilchrist, meanwhile, has signed up for a 16th consecutive season with Edinburgh after agreeing a new deal at Hive Stadium for next term.
