Ex-Wales scrum-half Lloyd Williams does retirement u-turn

Former Wales scrum-half Lloyd Williams has decided to sign a new deal with Worcester four months after announcing his retirement from the game.

The 36-year-old, who won 32 caps for Wales, made the decision to hang up his boots ahead of last season’s play-offs, which ended with the Warriors winning the Champ in their first season back in professional rugby.

However, Williams has decided he still has some more rugby in him and is now available for selection for tomorrow’s game against Bedford Blues, a re-run of last year’s final.

“It’s been a bit of a surreal week, but it’s been great coming back, seeing everyone and fitting back into the environment – everyone’s made me feel really welcome,” said Williams.

“Now I need to switch on to playing now and remember what it used to feel like to play for Worcester and I can’t wait to experience that again.”

Williams played 22 times last season, crossing for six tries and also captaining the side on two occasions.

Warriors head coach Matt Everard added: “We are delighted that such a brilliant person both on and off the pitch as Lloyd has decided to re-join us ahead of the season.

“Lloyd was a massive influence not just on the playing group last season, but also on the coaching staff through his attitude and desire to continually grow.

“His impact on the pitch is outstanding, but the experience and wealth of knowledge he brings is excellent. We can’t wait to see how he continues to add to the group.”
