One thing about LC - this match and prior - when things get sloppy he puts his head down and goes north - no sideways or dancing.

Eroni needs to keep ball in 2 hands at this level - or any.

I played 8 for a couple of years growing up. With scrum dominance I could get up with the ball and generate attack with the defense already taking steps back. We scored a lot this way. We also had to practice a lot in defense how to stop the attack from the back of the scrum when we lost dominance.

Good article Nick it was odd seeing Dickson referee like that.

Parker’s actions in the second clip earned him a yellow card for dragging, but Deon Fourie could just as easily have been sin-binned for the same offence in the first example.

I reckon you’re right and we might yet see the approaches converge somewhat throughout the series.

Even if Nick is right that the Springboks still struggle with multiphase attack they absolutely have the players to counter attack or attack off first phase in their own half.

It’s really interesting we’ve gone back to our traditional approaches.

During the tests last year, the ABs were trying to play like the Boks and the Boks were playing like the All Blacks!

Honestly, I think Johan Ackermann is just being straight with people here. If you’re missing your Springboks and only had a shortened pre-season, that’s a really tough way to prepare for the All Blacks.

I’m glad the Bulls are still putting out the strongest team they can. It would have been easy to treat it like a warm-up game, but this feels like a proper occasion.

NZ hadn’t played against a SA side who offer a completely different physical challenge at set piece and in open play - that’s why. Their penalties were both clear and obvious for the most part, nothing to do with CD changing his “style”. NZ lacked discipline, the ref penalised them. Thats how this game is meant to work, for both sets of players. dropped binds and collapsing the scrum, penalty all day long - do that at every scrum and it’s the same outcome. running blocking lines, penalty. Maul infringements penalty, high tackles yellow card and penalty. etc etc etc. Nothing new here, basic coaching. NZ had only themselves to blame but unfortunately we’re already questioning the official who got more right than he did wrong.

Hmm, I’m surprised all the SA URC teams have gone in that direction. I remember the Stormers and Lions (and sharks at times) played some really slick rugby back in the Super Rugby days.

All Blacks attack finds dangerous rhythm late in Sharks rout

I agree that the first two games will largely be similar players (injuries aside). Whatever the outcome is of those matches may lead to rotation.
