North American rivals the USA and Canada will meet in the first women’s quarter-final at the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, with the Cup knockout match to be played on Saturday evening at Kai Tak Sports Park.

New Zealand and Australia made every Cup Final during the 2025/26 SVNS 1 campaign, and both those teams remain in the race for the title at the Hong Kong Sevens. Jorja Miller continues to star for the Black Ferns Sevens, who went 3-0 with a +86 points difference in Pool A.

Miller, who is the clear front-runner on the RugbyPass Women’s SVNS Series leaderboard after the six regular season events, crossed for two tries as New Zealand ran away with a commanding 38-0 win over Fiji earlier on Saturday.

The Black Ferns Sevens have been drawn against Spain ahead of the quarter-finals, who were one of four teams to progress through to the World Championship Series out of SVNS 2, along with Argentina, South Africa and Brazil.

If the New Zealanders win that knockout match, they will take on the victor of Canada versus the USA, who have played out some thrillers already this season. At SVNS Singapore a few months ago, Olivia Apps scored an extra-time winner at the National Stadium.

But the USA won the most recent matchup between the traditional rivals, recording an emphatic 24-0 victory at New York’s Sports Illustrated Stadium last month. The USA finished third at the final stop of the regular season.

On the other side of the playoff picture, France will put their unbeaten record at this year’s Hong Kong Sevens to the test against an impressive Japan outfit. France went 3-0 in pool play, which included a hard-fought five-point win against the USA.

Whoever wins that match will either Australia and Fiji. Australia fought their way back from a 12-0 deficit to beat Canada in a tense Pool B match, with Maddison Levi and Faith Nathan among the team’s standouts so far.

Canada and the USA will kick off at 5:13 pm local time, before the Black Ferns Sevens face Spain in the next game at 5:38 pm. France and Japan meet in the third quarter-final at 7:19 pm, before the final women’s match of the day between Australia and Fiji at 7:42 pm.
