Canada confirmed for Tri-Nations Challenge during HSBC SVNS Vancouver
Both Canadian national rugby sevens teams will play in front of their home fans at Vancouver’s BC Place on March 7 to 8, with the men’s side taking part in the Teck Tri-Nations Challenge against Japan and Chile during the Vancouver Sevens.
Canada were crowned Men’s SVNS 3 champions in Dubai earlier this month, making a statement in the Cup Final with a 28-10 win over Belgium. Both the Canadians and Belgians have secured their place in the second-tier SVNS 2 season, which starts on February 14 to 15 in Nairobi.
Montevideo (March 21-22) and Sao Paulo (March 28-29) are the host cities for the other two stops during the SVNS 2 campaign, as teams battle for qualification spots in the World Championships along with all eight sides from the first division.
The Tri-Nations Challenge at the iconic BC Place will serve as important preparation for Canada ahead of the Montevideo and Sao Paulo events. It also gives fans an opportunity to watch six additional fast-paced matches of rugby sevens during an action-packed weekend.
“The Teck Tri-Nations Challenge reflects our shared commitment to supporting national sport and contributing to strong, vibrant communities,” President and CEO of Teck, Jonathan Price, said in a statement.
“We’re proud to help bring world-class rugby to fans in Vancouver and to champion Canada’s Men’s Sevens Team as they prepare for the next stage of the global series.”
“We are excited to have our men compete in the Teck Tri-Nations Challenge in Vancouver in front of a Canadian crowd,” said Nathan Bombrys, CEO of Rugby Canada. “We are grateful Teck has chosen to continue investing in Rugby Canada, and their support has enabled us to host Japan and Chile, two proud rugby nations, as part of the HSBC SVNS Vancouver weekend on March 7 and 8 at BC Place.”
HSBC SVNS Vancouver is the fifth event on the SVNS 1 circuit in 2025/26, with the tournament returning to BC Place for an 11th year. The top eight teams in women’s and men’s sevens will take to the field as they battle for a title and points towards the overall league standings.
With the new SVNS format splitting the teams into two pools of four, the stakes couldn’t be much higher with only the top two from each group progressing to the semi-finals. Every moment and match matters in the quest for title glory this season.
Fans will get to see some of Canada’s 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup heroes in action as part of Rugby Canada’s One Squad approach. Olympic silver medallists from the Paris Games are also expected to take part, but squads won’t be announced until mid-February.

The SVNS Series returns this weekend at Singapore’s National Stadium, which is the third event of the season after Dubai and Cape Town late last year. Perth follows Singapore, with the circuit returning to HBF Park on February 7 to 8.
New York will debut as a host city on March 14-15, in what is the final event of the SVNS 1 league season. The focus then shifts to the all-new three-leg World Championships, with events in Hong Kong China, Valladolid and Bordeaux.
