Bristol add ‘phenomenal’ Buisa for remainder of PWR season
Bristol Bears have confirmed the signing of Canada international Pamphinette Buisa.
The 28-year-old back-row forward has joined the Premiership Women’s Rugby club with immediate effect and will remain in the West Country until the end of the 2025/26 season.
Buisa has won caps for Canada in seven-a-side and 15-a-side rugby. In 2019 she was a member of the Canada 7s side that won a gold medal at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
She was initially named in Canada’s squad for this year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup in England but picked up an injury in a warm-up game against Ireland.
Buisa said: “I’m really excited to be joining Bristol Bears. I’ve watched the PWR grow over the years, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it with this team!”
Five games into the new PWR season Bristol are currently eighth in the league.
It has been a difficult start to the new campaign as Scott Lawson’s squad have been hit with a number of injuries.
In mid-November the club also confirmed the midseason arrival of Women’s Rugby World Cup winning playmaker Ruahei Demant on a four-month contract.
Since they registered a win against Leicester Tigers in their first game of the season the club have failed to pick up a win in their last four.
Most recently the side were convincingly beaten 41-10 to Exeter Chiefs and host Loughborough Lightning this Sunday at Shaftesbury Park.
Scott Lawson, Bristol Bears’ head coach, said: “Pam is a phenomenal addition for us.
“She’s a dynamic athlete with genuine versatility across the back row, and she plays the game with a level of physicality and intensity that lifts everyone around her.
“Her international experience with Canada brings real pedigree, but equally important is the energy and professionalism she brings off the field.
“We’re thrilled to have her with us for the rest of the season.”
