Black Ferns name unchanged team for Rugby World Cup semi-final rematch
Black Ferns head coach Whitney Hansen has stuck with the same 23 players who delivered last weekend’s win over the USA for this weekend’s Rugby World Cup semi-final rematch against Canada.
It was famously a match that ended New Zealand’s world title defence, with the Kiwis having won six of the seven prior tournaments. With the win and the ensuing final loss to England, Canada strengthened their hold on the world No. 2 ranking, one spot ahead of the Kiwis.
The evolving rivalry’s new chapter will see all four of New Zealand’s debutants from last week retained on the bench, after a win over the USA that saw the Kiwis find an attacking rhythm in the second half, despite two yellow cards and a red.
Finding that cohesion earlier in the match and improving discipline are sure to be high on the Black Ferns’ agenda.
“Our focus is on us and the upcoming opportunity to refine our rugby identity,” Hansen said.
“We know Canada are a physical and accurate side, and we’re looking forward to matching the intensity to put on a consistent, disciplined performance we can be proud of.
“Both teams are coming off the back of growing performances, so fans in the USA and back home can expect an entertaining contest.”
