Bath have announced the signing of tight-head, Marcos Camerlinckx, who has played for Argentina U20s and Argentina XV.

The 22-year-old South American joins the blue, black and whites from Super Rugby Americas Championship-winning franchise team, Pampas XV.

With internationals Archie Griffin and Will Stuart set to be on international duty for Wales and England during the Nations Championship and Billy Sela sidelined, Bath were short of bodies to anchor the scrum.

Kieran Verden has been handed the No.3 jersey for the PREM Rugby Cup match against Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park on Saturday afternoon, with Camerlinckx set to make his club debut off the bench.

Lock Isaac Sprenger will also make his pro debut if required from the bench, while Ioan Emanuel has returned a loan spell with Cardiff to begin at loose-head.

“I’m really happy to be here at Bath Rugby. It’s been an amazing experience so far, both on and off the pitch,” said Camerlinckx.

“I’m really enjoying being part of the club, getting to know everyone and learning every day. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and excited for what’s to come.”

Learning his craft in South America’s top rugby competition, before signing for Bath, Marcos has previously packed down for Club Regatas de Bella Vista in the first division of the Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires.

Son of Argentine No.8 Pablo Camerlinckx, the front rower also has experience playing at hooker and will now add the PREM to his CV.

Bath’s Head of Rugby, Johann van Graan, added: “We are looking forward to seeing how Marcos will develop his game over the next period of time and I am sure he will fit into our group very well.”

Argentina XV play England A at The Rec tonight, Camerlinckx’s new home for the rest of the season.
