Like his father, former Tonga international Keni, David is a centre and a player Chiefs director of rugby Rob Baxter believes has “a lot of potential”.

While signed on an academy contract, the upcoming PREM Rugby Cup has often provided an opportunity to expose young players to first team action.

The Chiefs will take on Sale Sharks and Bristol Bears over the coming month in the cup.

“I’m super grateful for this opportunity and it feels like a dream come true to sign for Chiefs,” Fisilau said.

“I hope to achieve great things at the club and develop myself as I contribute to the team as much as I can.”

Baxter added: “We’re very aware of the Fisilau’s as a family and, after how well Greg has done as a Chief, we had a good look at Dave who is a very good player in his own right.

“Dave expressed an interest in coming to the University of Exeter and joining our academy through the player pathway there. We think he’s someone with a lot of potential, so we’re delighted he’s made the decision to join us.

“Dave genuinely looks like a young man who could contribute a lot to our academy system, and we’re excited to see his future where he will hopefully progress through into being a senior player.”
