Josh Van der Flier Bio

Born 25 April 1993, Josh van der Flier began his professional rugby career in the Leinster Academy. He then progressed quickly, before making his professional debut for the side in 2014.

He’s since made more than 150 appearances for the side and won a host of honours. He’s won multiple Pro14 titles, a United Rugby Championship and a European Rugby Champions Cup. Plus, in 2022, he became only the third Leinster player ever to be named European Professional Club Rugby Player of the Year.

After making appearances for both the U18 and U20 teams, Josh van der Flier made his debut for the Ireland senior team in 2016. Ever since, he’s been a near ever-present for the side and has captured three Six Nations Championships, including two Grand Slams. In 2022, he was also named as the World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year.

Due to the strength of his performances for both Leinster and Ireland, Josh van der Flier was named in the 2025 British and Irish Lions squad for the team’s tour of Australia. Sadly though, during the tour, he did not make a test appearance.

Still young and with the world at his feet, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Josh van der Flier.
