Dan Sheehan Bio

Born on 17 September 1998, Dan Sheehan took to rugby at a young age. He quickly excelled at the sport and played for Clongowes Wood College in the Leinster Schools Senior Cup semi-finals in 2016. Added to this, he also played in the All-Ireland League with both Trinity College and Lansdowne.

Dan Sheehan signed his first professional contract with Leinster in 2020. He’s since been a phenomenal player for the province, and was named Leinster's 2021–22 Men's Young Player of the Year. The following season, he was named in the 2022-23 URC Elite XV of the year. Following this, in 2025, he captured his first major honour with Leinster, as he started in the side that won the 2024-25 United Rugby Championship final.

Thanks to his excellent performances for Leinster, Dan Sheehan made his debut for Ireland in 2021. Since, he’s become a regular starter for the team. In 2022, he won the World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year Award. A year later, he was a key part of the squad that won the Six Nations Grand Slam. In the final match against England, he scored two tries and won the Player of the Match award as Ireland claimed the Grand Slam for only the fourth time in their history.

In 2025, Dan Sheehan captained his country for the first time when Caelan Doris was ruled out of a match through injury. Then, in May 2025, he was named in the British and Irish Lions squad for the team’s tour of Australia

On the tour, he featured in all three tests, scoring two tries as the Lions won the series 2-1.

Still young and with plenty left to offer for both Leinster and Ireland, we can’t wait to see what else Dan Sheehan achieves in the game.
