France with Shaun Edwards in their coaching group have always kicked the most in the comp, typically around 31 times per game with a higher % of long kicks. That number will prob rise to the high thirties or even the early forties by the end of this 6N.

No he doesn’t. Watch the rugby, it has no affect. The article shows how it’s easy to get into position and move with the pass, this is how the All Blacks snuffed out Ireland in the WC.

It’s over coaching. Great to do if you’re good enough, sure, but isn’t what should be required.

The only other coach I know of who can coach blitz is Shaun Edwards, and if anything Shaun has moved in the other direction in recent times.

You can see it with the Leinster forwards like Doris and McCarthy. At Leinster they have the licence to amke seond and third efforts at BD time, with Ireland they do not - because the priority is to keep bodies in the line...

More kicks will also tend to create more broken field opportunities so how you react to those in attack and defence is vital.

It’s a work in progress, but now they need to stop chasers charging through bodies already in the air - and hence vulnerable. Both receiver and chaser need to make contact with the ball not the man first - a bit like these forums!

Part of the problem is that chasers are now looking to charge the receiver in the air while flapping an arm somewhere near the ball. In Basketball that’s a ‘charging foul’ not a fair contest.

They cd introduce a guideline where both chaser and receiver must make contact with the ball before they make contact with the opponent in the air. That wd help reduce the danger of the aerial impacts we’re seeing…

NZ used to know how to attack with turover ball, and it used to hv some great kicks, like DC, Nonu, Ben Smith, Izzy Dagg etc all in one team!

there appears to be a remarkable similarity between the AB and Irish reliance on set piece try scoring - both about 85%.

Great spot CW. It’s a major reason why Razor is gone. It’s also why Ire are falling behind.

I’m not sure Farrell and his Irish coaching group will do enough to pull the best out of this group of players. It was very worrying to see how poor the tactics were against France. Especially the kicking game. I think there is probably too much direction from the coaching box, and the players are in too much of a straight jacket when it comes to changing tactics.

It is all well and good to have a game plan, but more important is to adapt fast when that game plan is just not working.
