Record high and lows in updated women's world rankings

History has been rewritten after the final round of pool matches in Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, with one team at an all-time high in the world rankings and two sinking to new depths.

Fijiana’s emotional 28-25 win over Wales has led to the Pacific nation climbing to a best of 13th, on the back of a four-point gain, whilst at the same time demoting Wales to their worst-ever position of 12th.

Rugby Europe champions Spain have also fallen to their lowest ranking, a 29-21 defeat to Japan resulting in them falling to 14th place. The win for the Sakura 15 lifted them to 11th.

Otherwise, there were minimal changes with the top 10 staying unaltered. New Zealand’s 40-0 shut out of Ireland saw their rating increase by just 0.02 points, which was nowhere near enough for them to improve on third place.

World number one England, along with their nearest rivals, Canada, and fourth-place France, did not earn any additional points for their respective wins over Australia, Scotland and South Africa.

The same applied to the USA and Italy, who comfortably beat sides ranked well below them in Samoa and Brazil.
