Ireland get timely Tadhg Furlong boost ahead of Italy
Ireland have received a timely boost ahead of their Round 2 Guinness Men’s Six Nations clash against Italy, with Tadhg Furlong returning to full training.
Andy Farrell’s squad stepped up preparations at Clongowes Wood College on Monday, with the medical team reporting no fresh injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s fixture at the Aviva Stadium, where they’re looking to bounce back against the Azzurri after suffering a chastening 36-14 loss to France in the opening round.
Furlong’s availability will be assessed later in the week, with a final decision due to be made ahead of Thursday afternoon’s team announcement.
The tighthead prop did not feature in the opening round of the championship but has now resumed full involvement in training.
There was also positive news for Bryn Ward, who has rejoined the Ireland squad.
Ward travelled with the group to their training base in Portugal before linking up with the Ireland XV last week, where he featured alongside his brother Zac in Friday night’s fixture against England A at Thomond Park.
