Glasgow Warriors have produced a stunning comeback win over Toulouse in the second round of the Champions Cup, fighting their way back from a 21-point deficit to claim a miraculous 28-21 victory at Scotstoun Stadium.

It only took Antoine Dupont six minutes to score, with the lively scrum-half starting a match for the first time since March 9. The 29-year-old suffered a knee injury during a 42-27 win over Ireland in the Six Nations, and has only recently returned for Toulouse in two appearances off the bench.

Dupont played less than 40 minutes against Racing 92 and the Sharks before coach Ugo Mola elevated the No. 9 to the starting side. In a highly anticipated Champions Cup clash, Dupont couldn’t have started this match much better.

Toulouse executed a well-worked set-piece move, with Dupont reaping the rewards by running a support line with about six and a half minutes on the clock. Fullback Thomas Ramos added the extras as the six-time European champions began their point-scoring blitz.

Kalvin Gourgues scored the first of his two tries a few minutes later, before completing a double late in the half. Ramos converted both tries, as the visitors took a commanding 21-0 lead into the sheds at half-time.

Josh McKay gave the Warriors some hope early in the second term, with the fullback crossing for a decisive try in the 49th minute. Glasgow fans would’ve dared to dream when Gregor Brown added another five points to the home side’s score soon after, before Adam Hastings added the extras.

Sione Tuipulotu powered through a tackle attempt from Ramos in the 64th minute, proving unstoppable so close to the try line. Hastings made it three conversions from as many attempts, as Glasgow drew level with 21 unanswered points.

Gregor Hiddleston was rewarded for a mammoth 70-minute shift, scoring what ended up being the match-winning try moments before the hooker was replaced. Possession was split 50-50 during the final 10 minutes, with Glasgow hanging on for a famous triumph.

“Yeah, it was incredible. You wouldn’t have thought that at half-time but the boys stuck in, done well,” Hiddleston said in a video on the Glasgow Warriors socials.

“In these conditions as well, we just came out and fought really hard and got the win so that’s the main thing.

“This is incredible. I think this is the best is has ever been at Scotstoun Stadium. Thank you to the ‘Warrior Nation’, absolutely incredible.”
