Three-time Olympian Charlotte Caslick will not take any further part in the HSBC SVNS Series this season, with the Australian instead focusing on Super Rugby Women’s in a bid to play the Rugby World Cup in England which starts on August 22.

Caslick is one of nine Australian seven sevens stars who have committed to Super Rugby clubs, with five signing on with the Queensland Reds. Maddison Levi, Teagan Levi, Isabella Nasser and Khali Henwood have also linked with the Brisbane-based club for 2025.

Tia Hinds, Bienne Terita and Demi Hayes have joined the ACT Brumbies, while Sariah Paki is the sole member of the sevens squad who will wear the NSW Waratah’s sky blue jersey. These nine players were originally set to be made available for two matches between SVNS events.

But Caslick won’t return to the sevens circuit in the 2024/25 season, with the former Australia captain set to play out the remainder of Super Rugby Women’s with the Reds. RugbyPass understands the Reds will officially announce the decision at 3:00 pm on Wednesday.

Caslick has been named in the Reds’ 23 for this weekend’s clash with the Waratahs at Ballymore Stadium, with the 30-year-old set to come off the bench. Carys Dallinger is the starting fly-half while Lori Cramer will wear the No. 15 jersey.

Before the SVNS Series season, Caslick told RugbyPass and Rugby.com.au that she would only play Super Rugby Women’s if it was with the Reds. The Olympic gold medallist was eager to play regular minutes in a bid to become a genuine playmaking contender for the Wallaroos.

“Yeah definitely, I’d still love to play,” Caslick told RugbyPass and Rugby.com.au earlier this year.

“I’ve been talking to (coach Andrew Fraser) up in Queensland around playing Super W. I have said that if I play Super W, I’ll only play for Queensland. So I hopefully will get to do that at the start of next year, just to get some footy under our belts.

“But obviously, it’s hard aligning it with the SVNS Series. We obviously don’t have our full calendar yet.

“Definitely, it’s the goal. Hopefully, a lot of the sevens girls are looking towards the Rugby World Cup next year. I think it’s gonna be an amazing spectacle for women’s rugby so for us to be part of that would be really cool.”

Everyone knows Robertson is not supposed to be doing the coaching

Yeah it’s not actually that I’m against the idea this is not good enough, I just don’t know whos responsible for the appalling selections, whether the game plan will work, whether it hasn’t worked because Razor has had too much input or too little input, and whether were better or worse for the coachs not making it work against themselves.

I think that’s the more common outlook rather than people panicking mate, I think they just want something to happen and that needs an outlet. For instance, yes, we were still far too good for most in even weaker areas like the scrum, but it’s the delay in the coaches seemingly admitting that it’s been dissapoint. How can they not see DURING THE GAME it didn’t go right and say it? What are they scared of? Do they think the estimation of the All Blacks will go down in peoples minds? And of course thats not a problem if it weren’t for the fact they don’t do any better the next game! And then they finally seem to see and things get better. I’ve had endless discussions with Chicken about what’s happening at half time, and the lack of any real change. That problem is momentum is consistent with their being NO progress through the year. The team does not improve. The lineout is improved and is good. The scrum is weak and stays weak. The misfires and stays misfiring. When is the new structure following Lancasters Leinster going to click?
