The Champions Cup (or European Rugby Champions Cup) features the finest domestic rugby teams from England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, South Africa and Wales. The competition usually begins in December, when the 24 teams are split into four pools of six teams. The top 16 teams (four from each pool) then progress to the knockout stages, which contain a round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final.

Just like most other rugby union tournaments, the Champions Cup awards points based on match outcomes. A winning team receives four points and drawing teams receive two points each. Additionally, the competition uses the bonus points system whereby teams earn one point for scoring at least four tries or for losing a game by seven points or less. You’ll find all of this information in the Champions Cup standings above.
