James Hall

James Hall is a distinguished South African scrum half who currently represents Stade Français. He’s also enjoyed stints at the Southern Kings in Super Rugby and Oyonnax, where he gained promotion to the Top 14.

Born 2 January 1996, James Hall began playing rugby at a young age and earned provincial selection at primary school level. From here, he enjoyed a highly distinguished junior career. Although he spent most of his youth with the Sharks (2009-2014), he joined the Eastern Province Kings on a full-time basis in 2015 and he was a key member of the Eastern Province U19 side that won the U19 Provincial Championship for the first time in the team’s history. The year after, he signed for the Southern Kings in Super Rugby.

2016 then proved to be a breakthrough year for James Hall, who made seven appearances for the Southern Kings and was named in the South Africa squad for the World Rugby Under 20 Championship. During the tournament, he featured regularly as the young South African side finished fourth.

However, after only a year in Super Rugby, James Hall left the Southern Kings and signed for Oyonnax in France’s Pro D2. In his first season with the club, he helped them gain promotion to the Top 14. However, the side were relegated once again at the end of the 2017-18 season and James Hall left to join French giants Stade Français prior to the 2019-20 season, signing a two-year deal in the process.

Still young and with his best years in the game still ahead of him, we can’t wait to see what else James Hall can achieve in the game of rugby.
