And why wouldn’t they? They are the most basic and the most important stakeholders in the game.

Think big issue for the Boks is defence, think last two years they had an average score of around 16 points aginst them, this year it’s now up to 23ish - so they having an extra try put on them each game, which if I was a Bok fan pretty concerning especially with the age profile of the team.

That French game at the end of season will tell us a lot (especially if France get into the final - so potentially two games vs Boks).

Just behave. Every other team is kacking their nappy on having a world class level player to fill their first XV in every position, whereas Rassie is busy arranging his chess pieces 10 moves down the road and you’re banging on about a supposed “gulf between first and second teams”.

Must be real tough for Rassie and Co., all alone with their first world rugby problems…

2007 Super pullout ended up being half of the comp as a compromise. I’ve said it many times before but that was a significant step in the erosion of the domestic professional strata of NZ Rugby. The rugby public had allowed the npc to lose their ABs for most of that comp before but then Super was attacked. A sizeable chunk of the rugby public stopped spending their money in attendence because there were not going to see the best players. Meaning was taken out which is less tangible but I feel a strong element in the decline. Meanwhile the ABs became the strongest side for many years in world rugby but at what cost?

I don’t think Wessels is a natural hooker. They should let him settle at prop. Venter needs some more big performances at URC level, methinks. The one I’d keep an eye on as challenger to Grobbelaar would be Marnus van der Merwe. If he goes well at Munster this season he may well jump the queue.
