Until we get a few more first rank options in key roles it’s going to be uncertain. But the fact we are close to that now is giving us the ability to win consistently. The run down for this year will tell us much about depth.

The player group under Rennie is the core of this group. It’s taken a while to get the depth but they’ve been showing the potential for that long. Joe worked on the skills and you can see it baked in. All three have fostered new players for depth. Now it’s showing. It’s a credit to all three and seems that Kiss is the ideal mentor for this maturing group.

Agree and as per NBs latest article - cohesion really important - with all the moving chairs on the AB deck - that was lost from NC and through the GR. And the risk is that the Aussies are primed for Eden Park while we are still trying to work out out best 1-8.

They were unplayable last autumn. Absolute peak and a higher standard than their last 2 RWCs. Perfect blend of age and youth breaking through

The next block of NC games will tell it or not but there is a nagging feeling they are a little off it and 5-10% is dangerous at the top level

I also seem to think Dolly is a bit small but he is pretty busy around the rucks and with ball in hand always seems to make metres.

Bell was a beast on Saturday, everytime he touched the ball he made metres and on defence and in the scrum he was rock solid. You could see when he left the field that he was absolutely spent.

Nasser has impressed me this year so far, For some reason I have never really been a fan of him in super rugby but he seems to be pretty solid when he puts a Wallaby jersey on.

Like the idea of moving Jordie back to deal with the aerial game. But were you referring to Jordan? Agree he has the natural skills to compete. If Love was fit would have him back there too. When Clarke fit thats a handy aerial squad.

Donaldson was very wonky in the beginning, but the rest of the team picked him up. I wish someone could help him with his mental game. He has a lot of skill but really seems to struggle in international rugby.

Jorgo winning balls in the air is through pure determination and reading the game. I mean look at his defence as well, he is all over the field, and makes so many try saving tackles and gets involved in the ruck. He is a massive asset for the Wallabies, constantly thinking on his feet, one of my favourite players in world rugby.

Nice one Nick. The most pleasing aspect of the win for me was how the wallabies were able to control the game (for 65 min) and Wilson said as much post-game. Poor game management has been my bugbear all year and poor territory/possession/22 entries were a big factor in their losses to teams like IRE and FRA earlier in the year. Its also something Les flagged in ARG as something they need to work on. By nailing their restarts and exits with quality kicks from loners and donno, and then good chasing from jorgo/suaalii and competing at the lineout meant that the boks had very little ball in the WB half relative to usual from the WBs aspect. This allowed the WBs to get out in front and then maintain it whereas so often they let teams back in and to stay in touch on the scoreboard by making errors on the exit. This may not be as exciting as breaking down their blindside attack, but denying the boks entries and ability to build pressure was just as important imo as was being able to break their D down with clever attack. So, thank you for breaking down how the WBs were able to nullify the usual bok weapons that allow them to piggyback up the field.

Suaalii, williams, and jorgo all made several critical turnovers/regathers that allowed the WBs to piggyback down the field. Very good to see!

I think the one problem Rennie has is that he has more playing options than games available to test them all . . . . and injuries aren’t being his friend at this stage either.

It feels like front row bench, back row and back 3 are the 3 areas that are still work in progress.

This might just be rugby between world cup cycles. Eventually when it comes to world cup time and knockout rugby, the scores eventually get tight, regardless of how explosive the backline is. If the forwards don’t lay a platform, an explosive backline is of no utility.
