Les finales de Champions Cup et de Challenge Cup reviendront à Lyon en 2027

Les finales des éditions de 2027 de la Champions Cup et de la Challenge Cup auront lieu à Lyon au Groupama Stadium, a annoncé jeudi l’EPCR, l’instance organisatrice de ces deux compétitions.

« L’engouement actuel autour du rugby français est incroyable, et Lyon fait preuve d’un fort engagement pour permettre au sport de s’épanouir et inspirer les générations futures », a déclaré Dominic McKay, le président de l’EPCR, cité dans un communiqué de l’organisateur.

C’est la deuxième fois que la ville accueille ces finales, après 2016. Le club anglais des Saracens y avait dominé le Racing 92 (21-9) et décroché son premier titre en Champions Cup, tandis que Montpellier avait décroché le Challenge face aux Harlequins.

Cette année, les finales se dérouleront au Principality Stadium de Cardiff les 23 et 24 mai prochain. En 2026, c’est Bilbao qui accueillera les finales de Champions Cup et de Challenge.

Positive news that Will Jordan will play before the end of Super Rugby. He has been brilliant this year for the Crusaders and has brought a huge leadership role to the team. He left a gaping hole when he went off injured on Saturday night against the Chiefs. I am confident the team will bounce back. Some one like Johnny McNicoll, ( who played well last year),can do the job in the mean time.

Justin Marshall is one of the most astute rugby analysts. I agree with what he says about Crusaders halfback Kyle Preston. His kicking off both feet make him quite the weapon. His debut off the bench a few minutes in to round one against the Hurricanes, when he scored 3 tries, was memorable. I thought he should have come on earlier on Saturday night. I hope he starts against the Warratahs.He could be a bolter in the All Blacks.

Let’s be fair. John Hart picked him then dropped him. Wayne Smith also picked him then dropped him. Great as he was at Super/NPC level he was never that guy at test level. He initially missed out to Ian Jones, Robin Brooke and Royce Willis then later Troy Flavell, Norm Maxwell and Chris Jack. Was he better than any of those guys? Even at six Michael Jones, Andrew Bowers then Reuben Thorne funnily enough.
