L’ouvreur du Stade toulousain Romain Ntamack, malade et forfait de dernière minute dimanche lors de la première journée de Champions Cup contre les Sharks (56-19), est remis et postule en vue du déplacement à Glasgow programmé samedi.

Le numéro 10 des champions de France et des Bleus avait dû renoncer le matin même de la rencontre face à la franchise sud-africaine, alors qu’il était prévu comme titulaire, laissant sa place à Thomas Ramos tandis que l’Écossais Blair Kinghorn avait glissé à l’arrière.

Sous un temps annoncé comme typiquement écossais, avec de la pluie et un vent fort, le manager Ugo Mola pourra également compter sur son troisième ligne anglais Jack Willis, remis d’une blessure aux côtes et qui avait été ménagé face aux Sharks.

Des interrogations dans la ligne de trois-quarts

L’incertitude est en revanche forte au centre, alors que Santiago Chocobares et Pierre-Louis Barassi, commotionnés en novembre, suivent leur parcours de soins mais sont très incertains pour le voyage en Écosse.

Le jeune Kalvin Gourgues et Teddy Thomas, titularisés ce week-end, sont des options, tout comme Paul Costes ou encore le polyvalent Dimitri Delibes.

Blessés pour une longue durée, Juan Cruz Mallia, victime d’une rupture des ligaments croisés du genou droit, et le Belge Matias Remue, touché au poignet, ont été opérés avec succès lundi et s’apprêtent à entamer leur plan de réathlétisation.

Sorry for my poor english. I think Pita is very différent from Leicester and they were playing in very différent clubs in France. Toulon is playing in a very “direct” way and Toulouse is playing in a more “ french way “, so you are probably right.

He might have, and who knows what that player would be now, Jordie was only a ring in because they were that desperate without him. I’m not big on Jordie for a world number 1 AB team either (I think they can get a little more from 12), but I still think he provides a lot more than Tupaea.

And of course I am big on the class of Higgins coming through, and right now Timoci would be my number1, with Leicester I think growing to most likely be another 12 option. So it’s not really about how ‘good’ Quinn is for me, my statement was more putting his position in perspective, where he’s your ALB, Goodhue, Havili level. You may still disagree with that view as well.

Well yes, you could most certainly brute force it, kick a lot until you get it right.

But on the other hand, you can also practice that outside of the game, play to your current strengths, and when your kicks start hitting the mark in practice, then introduce them more into the game.

Haha sorry bud but you’re a salty Blues fan or your interpretations are as poor as BOKs!

Tupaea was eager for sure but I thought incorrectly penalised for being off his feet at his first ruck offence as that was only as a result of the ruck forming (others joining after he had hands on ball while on his feet), 5 minutes later he was off his feet again but that was only because the carrier rolled and so the attacking team was correctly penalized, then 5min before the half he entered a ruck nicely I thought, only loosing the collision and going under the other arriving player, and was roughly penalized for sealing when I don’t think he hindered the ball at all. That ruck you’re talking about he and Vaa’i were clearly over the ball first and that’s all the refs car about these days, whether you like it or not.

One theme dominates reaction to England chariot grinding to halt

England did not just kick the ball. Their kick pass ratio was almost 1:6 which was 25% better than Scotland, they had more carries than Scotland and strung together way more passes and rucks. They also generated 62% lightning quick ball. The problem was they turned the ball over 20 times and also played 30mins of the game a man down. They had 12 22m entries but only scored 1.4 points per entry so they were highly inefficient. Scotland got the bounce of the ball on a couple of occasions, they capitalised on poor English defence and English ill discipline and got points when they hit the 22 at 3.4 per entry. They also made 90% of their tackles in a world class defensive display. England played inaccurately, it happens, and they consequently suffered a poor defeat but there are good signs for them and they shouldnt be too discouraged.

It’s also possible that Ireland were unmotivated by a home game against Italy. What’s the chance they will be unmotivated for a game against England? Once again England are where they don’t want to be, in a game where they are expected to win well against an opponent that is not as bad as people think.

He looks a canny footballer, very Sam Tuipulotu like. What don’t use that kinda term/translation, we might express it like “the years have caught up on him” as in father time does his work on everyone eventually (i’m going pretty strong though!), or like “regressed through the years” as in gone backwards in levels, from the top/high standard, every year.

12 is one of the most demanding positions in kiwi rugby though, you are expected to do more than hit the ball up and link well with hand (though when you can do it as well as Leicester it’s a very intersting proposition) and I wonder if he has learnt the French version as he didn’t try to do a lot of the stuff Quinn did for example.

A first matchday with a very poor level of play. The New Zealand teams did nothing but kick the ball aimlessly. And half of those kicks weren’t even executed properly… the scrum-half keeps kicking 15–20 meter balls in a robotic way, without really analyzing what he’s actually doing.

When you then compare it to the style of play developed in the Six Nations, it’s very worrying. Watching France play such intelligent, constantly moving rugby is a real pleasure, with young backs under 90 kilos, it’s exhilarating.

Where do you start with England? It felt like two steps backward. This happened under Lancaster where the forwards got above themselves in thinking they didn't need to do the grunt work up front because they were in the backs instead of securing quick ruck ball. Last week I questioned whether my opinion of George Ford at 19 was wrong. This week I know I was right. Just like Prendegast and unlike Finn Russell he offers no running threat and only looks good when the forwards are on the front foot. Why was Cowan Dickie on in place George? You know the first 20 mins are going to be chaotically critical and yet Borthwick chose a hooker who is liable to do stupid things as it so proved with a no arms tackle deep in the Scotland half turning an English scrum into a Scottish penalty which a few minutes later turned into a Scottish try. Enough has been said about Arundel. Several players were absent during the game.

What I Havnt seen is criticism of the English coaches. It was obvious what the English game plan was going to be and Scotland practiced for it. I cannot imagine for one moment Rassie employing exactly the same tactics two matches in a row expecting to get the same result. Maybe Borthwick read too much into the Wales game and too little into Scotland game against Italy. Freeman at centre is a bust. He needs to go back to the wing. Fin Smith at 10 with Marcus Smith as back up and to cover 15 where Furbank would come in. Whilst Steward is able enough without the protection of runners his ariel prowess is less impressive he lacks real pace when joining the line.

Breathing fire. Haha. Well nobody will be fearing that team anyway. Maybe they will be good next week. Who can say what they might do. What we do know is there recent record against Ireland is poor. Based on form, they won’t find that game easy either. Imagine they are 1 from three with France still to play. That would make the tournament for me.

I think above all that the game is very différent between the two compétition. In France we can also see SR on Canal +, and we should think it's a différent sport. Some players should be better in one or another compétition.
