Voici la composition du Stade français pour la demi-finale contre Montpellier. (Crédit image : Stade français).

La deuxième demi-finale de Top 14 semble sur le papier la plus équilibrée même si les apparences peuvent être trompeuses. D’un côté, Montpellier, deuxième de la saison régulière, vainqueur de la Challenge Cup et sur une série fantastique de dix victoires d’affilée. De l’autre, le Stade français, troisième grâce à un bonus défensif accroché à la dernière minute de la dernière journée de la phase régulière à La Rochelle (27-22) et facile tombeur des mêmes Rochelais la semaine suivante en quart (45-5).

Pour ce match, le manager montpelliérain Joan Caudullo peut quasiment aligner son équipe-type, avec son inamovible arrière Tom Banks qui dépassera les 2 000 minutes lors de cette demie. Il a par ailleurs décidé de faire un banc en 5-3 avec la présence du revenant Justo Piccardo.

Au Stade français, Paul Gustard a reconduit dans les XV de départ quatorze des titulaires du quart de finale face à La Rochelle. Seul Moses Alo-Emile, pourtant impérial en mêlée fermée la semaine dernière, passe sur le banc tandis que l’international américain Jack Iscaro va débuter la rencontre.

Agree with this JW. He provides the mass we need across the second row, including 4, 5, 6 and 7. Its not Vaa’i thats the problem but a systems issue. I note there was quite a bit of experimentation on the GR tour through 1-5 - Vaa’i had to adjust his role across the games a d Baltimore was one game too much.

You are over confident. Australia is better than you think. As Rassie said, this is not a test that they are taking for granted. Wallabies always seem to perform better against the Springboks. I am looking forward to this one.

Game I most wanted to watch today and Paramount+ decide not to screen it. When is world rugby going to wake up to this selective screening by CBS. Totally frustrating they have yet to broadcast all the games in a tournament they have the license for in the US.

Disagree, I think it’s more about how they absorb entertainment, like the guy said, it’s not as passion driven.

This means any market can make a product and sell it to americans for the benefit of the game their (and the market), it just has to be top notch.

It was disappointing from South Africa in that respect. Rassie even rightly called himself out for making the wrong subs in that first test, they could have had all four but you’d have ask “why is the team so reliant on Kriel” etc.

It’s what I was expecting though tbh, there were subtle differences but like with Razor/Foster perhaps more through luck than anything else.

I think the issue is much more simple than this. As you know I did not buy into the narrative that Razor was an incompetant coach. I saw real development in terms of clinical structured play. For me the players were struggling with the regimentation needed to play Black Crusader rugby and it imploded in Wellington. London however was an unfortunate confluence of injuries to our key play makers - Roigard and BB - and another brain explosion by Taylor. The failure also to develop a 6-2 bench compounded an energy deficit in the second half. DR threw out the Black Crusader regimentation in favour of his Chiefs, Glasgow and Steelers formula. It has sparked an attacking prowess we have not seen for years - but it has come at the expense of the type of structured % play that Razor was building and brought with it a high error rate. When faced with a well oiled machine like the Boks, who have been fine tuning their systems for several years, the inevitable lack of coherency is exposed. And if we reflect on the losses to Boks on this tour, we can pinpoint “moments” in the game where the Boks systems overwhelmed the ABs. So, one of the key issues with the GVF analysis is that it underestimates the signficance of context of the games and thus overestimates the real difference between the coaches and the players.

Ps to put some stats around this, I have analysed the performance efficiency of the Boks and the ABs for all the NC and GR games. This is based on an aggregate of point per pass / carry and tackle. The AB average is 4.7 and never got higher than 5.8 while the Boks averaged at 6.7 and maxed out at 8.2 in Baltimore. This supports a strong inference that the Boks systems are just inherently more efficient at this time while the ABs are still coming to grips with their new systems. It is not coincidental that the Boks lost with their lowest performance ratio for the tour at 6.4.

CVC used to own F1 alongside Bernie Ecclestone, they increased the global tv deals and then sold to Liberty Media who have added the lifestyle content, Drive to Survive etc.

CVC have gradually been buying into rugby. They own 25% of the commercial rights to PREM, URC & 6 Nations and have been included in the Nations Championship negotiations. As an aside, they also own La Liga (Spanish football etc) so they are a very savvy broadcaster negotiator and will be pushing up prices, which is how they make the money.

When can the 6 nations change to, after club season? Don’t know what you’re trying to achieve there but TRC is a significantly longer tournament.

If anything changed with Fiji and Japan I would think they’d more replace Argentina and South Africa. with the PNC essentially including NZ and Aus. Argentina and SA might also be better off logistically with the best South American and African teams in a new tournament, which could be aligned with 6N though their would be more point to aligning it with JRLO given that’s where most of their players are from?

All of the cards France took were legit. I would have give a yellow for Australia on the direct red card situation.

Yeah yeah, amazing comeback, blah blah blah. But being a bit more than a casual specator, I am just extremely disappointed with my team's performance. France didn't live up to its standing. And what can you say about Australia? My goodness, it was ugly, disjointed, and devoid of ideas—and that was 11 against 15! It actually got worse as France got their players back. Like, who on planet earth got 4 more players and litteraly lost ? It’s disturbing.
