And obviously that changes again with the different % and distances of lineouts from the corner.

irst URC SA sides competed in 21/22 the Bulls were runners up. Munster won the second URC the SA sides competed in 22/23 - The Stormers were home advantage runners up - woops. The 23/24 season is still under way with three SA teams in the top eight and two in the top four.

No Stormers last year! Jokes mate, it’s crazy tight in the URC as well, can be anybodi’s again.

You mean has been stop start? Do they send them on one by one instead of in bunch’s or something? A solution for the Top 14 would then be to have a separate limit on the number of ‘timeouts’ theyre allowed to make subs (tactical) with.

I think you misunderstood my idea though. First, what were seeing now, there is absolutely no stopping for injuries. Second, these are interchanges, so the injured person can come back on within 10 minutes just like with the blood bin, and if they don’t, then it’s a substitution.

I’d give the front row unlimited of those and full access to the squad as per your suggestion so we never see uncontested scrums and players forced to play an extra man down, and 5 permanent subs for the rest. Probably with a limit of 3 forwards, as although the NFL direction is a bonus, maintaining balance would be more desirable.

I think people have generally misunderstood what makes Super Rugby distinct. It’s always been set apart because of its brutality and test match level intensity of confrontations.

English rugby is almost the complete opposite now, more attune to NPC and Currie Cup level attitudes, or how a tit for tat game between New Zealand and Australia would transpire.

I think their sophistication or ‘tricks’ would but these SR teams under a lot of pressure.

Structure is essential but it has to have a flow and tempo, players can only really express themselves if they have that forward momentum and quick ball. England play with such staccato, they're not expecting anyone to make a break or do anything creative because they're setting up to kick after every ruck. Our average ruck speed is nearly double that of France and per possession we kick twice as much. Runners get isolated, no one is running lines because they're expecting to hit rucks or standing flat to chase kicks, players aren't offloading etc You can't play like that and expect players to be able to conjure magical moments.
