Porté par sa dynamique européenne, le Stade Toulousain a remporté le classico face au Stade Français (27-21) ce dimanche 20 avril à Jean-Bouin, dans le cadre de la 21e journée de Top 14.

Malgré un effectif remanié après sa qualification en demi-finale de Champions Cup, Toulouse s’est imposé pour la première fois à Paris depuis 2019.

Grâce à ce succès, les Toulousains conservent les commandes du championnat avec 74 points, devant l’UBB (69) et Toulon (67), tandis que le club parisien glisse dangereusement à hauteur de Perpignan, 13e, avec lequel il partage désormais le même nombre de points (36).

Peato Mauvaka, Paul Costes et Santiago Chocobares étaient bien présents, et c’est Juan Cruz Mallia, titularisé à l’ouverture, qui a scellé la victoire avec un troisième essai inscrit entre les poteaux à la 64e minute, sur un coup de pied rasant (27-14).

Le début de match avait été parfaitement maîtrisé par Toulouse, qui menait déjà 17-0 après 14 minutes grâce à deux essais signés Banos et Costes, profitant d’erreurs parisiennes sous une pluie battante. Mais les locaux ont réagi, notamment via leurs avants, avec des essais de Louis Carbonel et Romain Briatte avant la pause (17-14).

La seconde période, plus brouillonne, a vu les Toulousains reprendre le dessus dans l’impact et la maîtrise. L’essai de Sekou Macalou pour le Stade Français n’a pas suffi à inverser la tendance. Seule ombre au tableau côté toulousain : la sortie sur blessure de Naoto Saito, touché à la cheville, alors qu’Antoine Dupont est déjà indisponible.

Lors de la prochaine journée, Toulouse accueillera Castres, tandis que le Stade Français se déplacera au Racing 92 avant un autre déplacement crucial à Perpignan.

Who would make it into a Women's British and Irish Lions starting XV?

I would pick Oifa Wafer at 6, put Aldcroft in the second row with Ward. I think Wafer is one of the few non-England players mentioned that would contend for a Red Rose shirt, the others being King and possibly Neve Jones. Conversely there are two English players mentioned, Sing and Venner, that probably won’t even make the Red Rose WC squad, let alone a Lions Tour. Still a lot can change in two years, watch out for Millie David.

Depends on gameplan and conditions. LBB and Penaud behind a retreating pack won’t be as effective. True, Lowe is not the fastest, but almost unstoppable close to the line, has a booming boot for exists and, like most Kiwi backs, reads the game extremely well. If my team was being dragged into the gutters on a rainy night, I would easily pick Lowe over LBB and Penaud. If my backline had constent front-foot ball then, sure, LBB and Penaud. If Kolbe and KLA wasn’t available of course.

Will LAR be prepared to release him to the Wallabies outside the international window?

Interesting that Blair Kinghorn is the only player selected for the Lions playing in France, which gives some idea of the difficulty in introducing a player into the squad, whilst training and some games have/are been played.
