L'UBB sécurise la révélation Jon Echegaray jusqu'en 2027

L’arrière international U20 Jon Echegaray, révélation de ce début d’année de Bordeaux-Bègles, a prolongé d’un an son contrat qui court désormais jusqu’en 2027, a annoncé jeudi le club girondin.

Echegaray, 19 ans, originaire de Bidart et formé à Biarritz, avait rejoint les Espoirs de l’UBB en 2023.

Freiné par les blessures lors de sa première saison en Gironde, il a connu sa première feuille de match le 15 février à Bayonne, match au cours duquel il a offert un essai à Nicolas Depoortere et inscrit un autre.

Il s’est de nouveau illustré deux semaines plus tard en marquant l’essai le plus rapide de l’histoire du Top 14 en 7 secondes.

Ses premières prestations en club lui ont valu d’être appelé chez les Bleuets durant le dernier Tournoi. Titulaire contre l’Irlande et l’Écosse, le Basque a encore inscrit trois essais et s’est fait remarquer par de nombreux franchissements.

Profitant de la blessure au pied de l’habituel titulaire à Bordeaux Romain Buros, Echegaray a disputé le week-end dernier son premier match en Champions Cup face au Munster avec encore à la clé un essai et une passe décisive.

Il devrait de nouveau débuter contre Pau samedi en ouverture de la 21e journée de la Top 14.

The Crusaders backline was toothless throughout this game and particularly so in the second half as the whole team tired and collapsed under Chiefs pressure. Forward effort was also poor as a huge amount of possession was conceded far too easily. Not the first time the Crusaders have lost the possession stats to their opposition.

Positive news that Will Jordan will play before the end of Super Rugby. He has been brilliant this year for the Crusaders and has brought a huge leadership role to the team. He left a gaping hole when he went off injured on Saturday night against the Chiefs. I am confident the team will bounce back. Some one like Johnny McNicoll, ( who played well last year),can do the job in the mean time.

Justin Marshall is one of the most astute rugby analysts. I agree with what he says about Crusaders halfback Kyle Preston. His kicking off both feet make him quite the weapon. His debut off the bench a few minutes in to round one against the Hurricanes, when he scored 3 tries, was memorable. I thought he should have come on earlier on Saturday night. I hope he starts against the Warratahs.He could be a bolter in the All Blacks.
