Loved this article. All very true and the sport is in tough financial straits so it shouldn’t be shamed when it arrives upon a cash cow idea. This is especially true for southern hemisphere rugby.

Both the Ab’s and the Boks were crap. The team the AB’s played against did not have one player in the top 40 in SA. Presumably because the touring squad was the top 40 the AB’s did. If the AB’s can’t put a better next 23 on the park than that they are in serious trouble. The Boks were abysmal too. Lots of thinking - we acknowledge how crap the Boks were you had better come to terms with how crap the AB’ s were to or we are both going to be taken to the cleaners by France.

Bazz I really like a lot of your comments. Not so much this one. Both the AB’s and he `Boks were abysmal. A little while ago you wrote that the Boks scramble defence was amazing. The scramble defence relies on the scrum half - the Stormers didn’t have a scrum half and there was a flank on the wing and a lock at flank. I f you are really proud of the last two AB tries as the level of their excellence you are in serious trouble. The real facts are that with twelve minutes to play the game was in the balance against a team missing eight international players - if you are happy with that …. that about pegs your expectations of the AB’s. As a supporter of 1. SB’s 2. AB’s I am not happy with the AB’s performance.

2025 was really the only anomaly in scrum issues since our front row was changed in 2022 after the Irish series loss. Matongo was clearly up to some tricks on the weekend. Dickson had no clue.

He’s faster than James Lowe, who’s had plenty of success at the wing. Although I agree with you, that Suaalii should stay at 13. His skillset would be wasted on the wing.

The bigger picture is, that there’s already a great degree of internal competition for all the outside back spots where Australia is spoiled for choice. Elite players like Pietsch, or Daugunu struggle for game time. Not so much in the midfield. Here’s where Suaalii comes in with his aerial play and handling skills.

Half agree with you. Ikitau is the best 12 rn for sure. Agree with Lonergan as well. It’s Carter Gordon’s #10 jersey to lose now, but to say that Meredith’s had his shot is calling it a day at 1:30pm. Guy needs to get more chances for injury contingency alone as Edmed is not exactly an iron man, either.

Don’t agree on Paisami. Better defensively as of now, but Suaalii has definitely more offensive upside and a higher ceiling, and his attack is more unpredictable. Paisami is an excellent crash-ball 13, but not a credible pass/kick threat. Suaalii’s aerial and offloading skills are off the charts, which can help him keep a link-up play alive, that would die with just about any other player in the world.
