Height is such a lame excuse. Plenty of guys as tall of him are capable of getting low enough to never get carded. Jager recklessly charged the Frenchman full-tilt, knowing full well the onus is on the tackler to ensure proper technique. He has no one to blame but himself.

Nice of Borthwick to give Razor a bit of notice! I wonder if he will change anything in response. I would start Tamaiti, give Ethan a rest and bring Bower off the bench. I would also swap out Kirifi for Parker on the bench, to counter the height and power of Cunningham-South. I’d love to see him persevere with Faing’anuku at 13, but given Proctor came off the bench last week, I think Proctor will slot in at 13, and LF will go to 11. I’d love to see Reiko in place of Carter at 14 - more height and experience. Reiko will have great memories of Twickenham too and will be fizzing.

I think this is the sad truth of it. Both are just on the outer of selection and their battered bodies aren’t helping them. They are like Mike Brewer in the 1990s who looked all set to become an All Black Captain but kept getting injured.

All Blacks 'arguably the best team in the world at the minute'

IDK about that JR, it’s often used as a joke for poor games, but the ABs are said to have “kept the powder dry” during the reigns, so I could totally see Rassie doing more to keep his opponents guessing.

The difference hear maybe is that Rassie is prepared to take more risks, and arguably has a lot more to play with. As an AB fan I of course think the team and style that defeated the All Blacks in Wellington is best, but that team in France certainly showed the old timers can compete with Europes best, and do in a more direct 10 man style, that may even have been a step up from their Eden Park display (where a lot didnt go their way).

As I mentioned early, with the potential risk of injury for Carter, I think they will start him. Also Joe seems to like to start the novice 10 and finish with the more experienced player.

How tall is de jager? 6 ft 9 ? The Frenchman went down to his knees while Lood was already committed…how low do you expect the man to go. Should prob have been a 20 min red card, but ok fine so be it. But should defo be more mitigation on the suspension due to the above and there being no intent

I agree with much of your overall sentiment but maybe you can go from being a good team in June to poor performances in Autumn (or spring…).

I am not sure about giving Eddie too much credit. Carrying at least a couple of those older heads like Michael Hooper (and perhaps Quade Cooper or JOC or even Foley or Lolesio) into the RWC in 2023 was a mistake for me. Taking only one inexperienced 10 and a 10-15 in Donaldson, neither with much test experience, exposed us. And I am not sure how you leave out Len Ikitau but take Suli Vunivalu. It appeared erratic and chaotic from outside - with a complete overhaul of coaching staff as well - and I think the players felt that way too.

In the air going forwards - he hasn’t been as good in the air going backwards (i.e. defending the high kick/box kick). In rugby league, he would almost always be coming on to that high ball - but it doesn’t necessarily seem to translate to defending the high ball when the attacking players have the advantage of coming forward.

Is it a case of fitting him in to a defensive structure in the short term, and maybe changing that structure if he becomes the permanent solution. I think all of the currently available 10s - Tane Edmed, JOC and Carter are all quite able to defend in the front line - but others like Lolesio and Lynagh, perhaps less so. So maybe the defensive system is a legacy of past 10s.

I don’t think they will be able to bring Cater off the bench if he still has the potential to be injured with that quad? They will have to start him just in case, and bring JOC off the bench? They may even go back to Edmed/JOC.
