George North is a Welsh try-scoring supremo. A talisman for the Ospreys and the Wales national team, he’s an incredibly exciting wing who holds the record for the most tries in international rugby for an active player. George North was inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021.
Born on 13 April 1992, George North was born in England but moved to Anglesey when he was only two. As a result, he played all of his junior rugby in Wales and represented Llangefni, Pwllheli, Rhyl and Gogledd Cymru under 16s.
George North first appeared for the Scarlets in 2010. However, it did not take long for the international team to notice his skills. In fact, he’d only played in six games for the Scarlets before he represented Wales.
In total, George North played 42 games for the Scarlets before he left to join the Northampton Saints in 2013. During his five years at the club, he put in a number of impressive performances and was instrumental in the club’s European Rugby Challenge Cup win and Premiership triumph in 2014.
When his contract with the Saints ran out, George North returned to Wales and joined the Ospreys, where he has stayed since.
However, although George North has enjoyed a distinguished club career, he has truly excelled on the international stage, where he has been capped more than 100 times by his country. He’s the youngest player to reach the landmark for Wales and only the legendary Shane Williams has scored more tries for Wales than he has.
With so many years of elite-level rugby ahead of him, we can’t wait to see whether George North can overtake the record of Shane Williams.
